Cinque Terre Travelogue

Cinque Terre Travelogue

We spent the last weekend exploring the Cinque Terre, the most picturesque region of the Italian Riviera and the location of our upcoming photography workshop. We have now pretty much nailed down the program, even though we need to maintain flexibility to accommodate the vagaries of weather and any unforeseen circumstances.

Speaking of the weather, the gods were not exactly with us. We had a few breaks of sunshine, lots of clouds and a bit of rain too. Not the best light for landscape, but we made the best of what was given us and, after all, the purpose of the trip was scouting the best locations, not necessarily coming home with the best pictures. By the time the workshop starts, I am sure the weather will be great.

The quaint, little villages of the Cinque Terre and the coastline that stretches between them are not just a great location for landscape photography, but also offer lots of opportunities to capture colorful street scenes and details.

We had what was probably the best time of the whole weekend when we hiked from Vernazza to Corniglia along the path that climbs high on the cliffs and affords spectacular views of the coastline below. We liked it so much that we decided to include it in the workshop’s program.
